Welcome back to another reading of Revolving Edge. We are proud to introduce the freelance model, stylist, designer, and Fashion Marketing student, Brittan Blackshear. Take a peek at the background of this talented designer and see who her influencers are and who inspired her to work in the fashion industry.
Brittan Blackshear is a freelance model, stylist, and Fashion Marketing student at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. She has had her fair share of time in the limelight, from being the fifth runner-up in the National American Miss Pageant, modeling for Renee France Designs, professionally modeling for Sam’s Kids Agency, to also appearing in the new YouTube web series “The C-Word”. Being a designer has always been Brittan’s dream. From the time she was a child, her mother would influence and encourage her to watch fashion-related shows about entrepreneurs. In addition to leisurely entertainment, this helped her gain the knowledge of knowing how to manage her own business within the fashion industry.
Furthermore, in Brittan’s senior year of high school, she was already designing clothing for the school’s Fashion Show. Her biggest inspirations were 90s street fashions. She enjoys watching 90s music videos and commercials to gain inspiration for her next design.
Her major influence in High School was her Fashion instructor by the name of Shanae Harris. Shanae Harris had experience in the industry and worked with big names, such as Tommy Hilfiger, and also attended F.I.T. (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York City. Shanae immediately saw potential in Brittan and knew she’d do great things in the industry. Moving forward, Brittan first started designing custom shirts for up and coming music artists and for events. She enjoys the creativity end of Photoshop and Illustrator. She calls it the "computer art easel".
With all her hard work and dedication, she was finally able to bring her dream to life, creating her business "Selfish Trend" in late August of 2017. Her business is based out of South Jersey and merchandise can now be purchased on her website (see link below). Even though the business is fairly new, she has received a lot of notice from all around the world and will be collaborating with other designers who are just as creative as she. Brittan will be launching her men's collection on November 20th. She will also be graduating with her bachelor degree in Fashion Marketing in the summer of 2018.
